Ran urban fishing education and conservation program, I FISH NY, in collaboration with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
Curriculum Development & Communication
  1. Designed original lesson plans for ages 8 and up that met New York State and New York City Learning Standards.
  2. Produced teaching tools including Go Fish! card game, featuring local fish diversity.
  3. Led teacher training workshops through the New York City Department of Education and the Student Conservation Association.
  4. Created content for website visited 37,000 times in first 2 years.
  5. Created displays for outreach events: posters, portable dioramas, interactives.
  6. Designed I FISH NY newsletter, produced triannually. Served as illustrator, regular contributor, and chief copy editor.
  7. Illustrated fish for NYSDEC literature, I FISH NY learning aids, and public signage: Go Fish! cards, Nearshore Saltwater Sportfish of New York brochure, Oyster Bay Pier.
  8. Developed information graphics for New York State invasive species projects.
Classrooms and Clinics
  1. Taught fish biology, fish biodiversity, marine and freshwater ecology, aquatic conservation, and fishing techniques to over 1500 NYC school children annually through classroom visits and fishing trips.
  2. Designed and ran fishing clinics reaching 300 to 400 people annually.
  3. Partnered with local environmental organizations: Metropolitan Water Alliance, New York Restoration Project, Rocking the Boat, Partnership for Parks (Queens chapter).
Fieldwork and Research
  1. Designed, implemented, and analyzed evaluations given to in-school and clinic participants.
  2. Co-authored poster used in American Fisheries Society Symposium 2007.
  3. Co-authored manuscript for American Fisheries Society Urban Fishing Symposium 2007.
  4. Performed fisheries fieldwork: electrofishing, seine netting, and fish data collecting.
Program Management
  1. Prepared data for federal reporting to maintain grant status and monitor program success.
  2. Annually reviewed grant proposals for funding other NY Sea Grant projects.
